Initial Assessment

Initial assessments can be nerve-racking, especially if it's your first time. This is your chance to speak about challenges and to provide relevant background information as you deem appropriate. It's also your chance to meet your therapist and to decide whether or not you feel comfortable with them. A strong therapeutic or working relationship with your therapist will promote more successful treatment outcomes.

What you can expect:

  • Exploration of the limits to confidentiality, risks and benefits, and informed consent
  • Gathering of both current and background information (e.g., personal, family, social, school/work, future, goals)
  • Obtainable goal setting
  • Direction with positive coping strategies that can be implemented immediately

JR Wellness goal: help clients feel safe and hopeful.
